Airport Refurbishment

Rockhampton Airport Terminal Screening Upgrade & Refurbishment

Rockhampton Airport is upgrading its security to meet obligations under the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 (ATSA) and the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005 (ATSR).

The Master Plan has been triggered by the Federal Government’s directive to strengthen security measures with the installation of new x-ray body and baggage scanners across regional airports by December 31, 2020.

The new security infrastructure will incorporate leading technologies and enable the safe processing of an increasing volume of passengers and visitors to the Rockhampton Airport.

The first stage, we will see considerable improvement with a more spacious ground floor area to cater for the new screening. The departure lounge will absorb additional space devoted to more seating and food and retail outlets will be included in this area which has been a popular customer request.

Council’s Airport Chair Councillor Neil Fisher said the new terminal design will offer a better experience for domestic passengers, a dedicated FIFO area and can cater for future growth of international passengers as well.
