Departing Passengers

When do I have to be at check in?

Most domestic airlines require you at the check in counter at least 45 – 60 minutes before departure. Please check with your airline on their specific requirements to avoid missing your flight.

What type of liquids can I take on the airplane?

If you are flying within Australia on a domestic flight, there are no restrictions on how much powders, liquids, aerosols and gels you can carry onboard.

If you are travelling domestically, but departing from an international terminal, there are limits on powders, liquids, aerosols and gels. All aerosol containers must have a fitted cap, or locking device.

The screening for liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) introduced in March 2007 by the Australian Federal Government does not apply on domestic flights. Passengers transferring onto international flights following on from a flight departing Rockhampton Airport will be subject to the LAGs restrictions. Knowing what’s allowed and what’s not allowed before you arrive could save you, and other passengers, time and inconvenience. Any LAG item you wish to take into the international departure lounge or within the cabin of an aircraft for an international flight must be in an adequate container; however containers cannot be over 100ml.

What can’t I take through security screening and in my carry on luggage?

All persons entering the Departure Lounge at Rockhampton Airport (passengers, airport staff and the general public) must go through the screening point. All hand luggage must be put through the x-ray machine and may be subject to search. All knives or cutting implements such as nail scissors, pocket knives or sharp pointed objects are prohibited from hand luggage. These items should be packed in your checked in baggage for travel. For further information please contact the airlines direct.

How much carry on luggage take I take on board?

Limits for carry on baggage vary with each airline. We ask that you do observe these as customers with excess carry on baggage or bags exceeding the permitted weight are liable to be charged as per the airline rate.

How do I transport my pet, or where can I find this information?

For information on transporting your pet/s, please contact the airline or cargo agent direct.

Can I purchase flights over the counter at the airport?

Parking

What car parks are available at Rockhampton Airport?

We have four car parks to choose from. Each car park has been colour-coded to make things a little easier: Short Term (green), Mid Term (red), Long Term (blue) and Covered (black).

TIP: Give yourself plenty of time to park and check-in – at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled departure as airlines have recently enforced strict check-in closure times.

How do I access the car parks?

There are two entryways for designated car parking sections. The Long Term car park is accessible only via Canoona Road, which is just to your right before the main entry way to the airport. As you proceed down Hunter Street towards the airport, follow the blue sign to direct you to the Long Term parking.

To access the Covered, Short Term and Mid Term car parks proceed straight down Hunter Street to the entry of the Airport. When you get to the roundabout, you will either turn left for Covered, straight ahead for Short Term or right for Mid Term.

TIP: Follow the signs that have colour-coded parking symbols on them or the colour-coded arrows on the road.

Are the car parks connected?

The Long Term, Mid Term and Short Term car parks are all connected by pedestrian walkways.

There is a small bridge that connects the Long Term and Mid Term car parks. From here there is a pedestrian crossing which allows access into the Short term car parks and through to the terminal by way of covered walkways. You will also find the car park Pay Stations by the Short Term car park area.

The Covered car park is in close proximity to the northern end of the terminal or check-in counters and is not connected to any other car park.

TIP: Follow the green way-finding directions painted on the road to direct you to the Airport Terminal.

What if I accidentally drive into the wrong car park?

Don’t panic! You have a 20-minute free grace period in the Short Term, Long Term and Mid Term car parks. Simply find the exit boom gate and insert your ticket at the exit and the boom gate will rise for you. Unfortunately, we do not issue refunds for parking in the wrong car park.

TIP: The only car park that does not have a free grace period is the covered car park.

How are the car park fees calculated?

Council fees and charges are reviewed and adopted prior to each new Financial Year, which is from 1 July to 30 June.

Rockhampton Airport car park fees are based on a 24-hour period. Parking for partial days will be charged at the full daily rate. Only the Short Term car park has partial charges up to the first 24-hour period, after this time charges are at the full daily rate.

TIP: Check the links at the bottom of this page, Compare the Car Park Charges(PDF, 223KB)  to do a price comparison, and the Car Park Map(PDF, 2MB) to plan your visit.

How do I pay for car parking?

There are two Pay Stations located inside the terminal opposite the baggage carousels and two others located in the Short Term car park. All four Pay Stations accept cash and cards.

The Exit Stations do not accept cash. Payment at the Exit Stations is by credit card only either by inserting your credit card or by the Paypass facility. To pay by cash you will need to park your car in a bay and walk to the Pay Station in the Short Term car park.

TIP: If paying by Paypass please hold your card over the reader until all four green lights are displayed.

Can I pre-book a car space?

No, there is no pre-booking of car spaces at this stage.

What if I have lost my ticket?

You can go to one of the Pay Stations located in either the terminal or Short Term car park and press the help button. A car park attendant will assist you via the intercom with a lost pass ticket. The attendant may ask for your vehicle registration number to verify your entry date and time.

TIP: Tickets are printed on thermal paper, so please ensure tickets are stored safely and avoid hot, humid or wet conditions, exposure to direct sunlight or contact with plastic. Tickets should not be left in vehicles for security reasons and possible damage to the ticket.

Can I receive a parking fine while parked at the airport?

If you park in a designated parking bay you won’t run the risk of receiving a parking infringement. Local Laws regularly patrol our car parks as well as the MSS Kerbside Guards who can both issue infringement notices.

TIP: Parking or stopping in front of the terminal is prohibited and can lead to parking infringements being issued.

What do I do if I forgot to press the receipt button?
